Life in Rhode Island

While it may be the smallest state, it combines city living with easy access to the outdoors, making it a very livable location.

Discover Rhode Island and its amazing natural beauty, authentic traditions and rich history. A place where you can hike, bike, and paddle through woodlands or 400 miles of coastline.

Rhode Island is a special place to spend residency. While it may be the smallest state, it combines city living with easy access to the outdoors, making it a very livable location. Providence is a medium size city nestled at the base of Narragansett Bay. Travel & Leisure has named Providence its 3rd favorite city in America and the 2nd best foodie city in the nation. It is known for its world famous oysters and coffee milk, a quirky beverage you’re unlikely to find anywhere else.

Within 10 minutes of Providence you can access one of the state's many beaches; many a resident has taken advantage of this proximity while on home call. Rhode Island has 400 miles of coastline, and aside from beautiful beaches boasts the world famous Cliff Walk in Newport, the sailing capital of the world, and Block Island, our own Martha's Vineyard. The summer brings the world famous Newport Jazz and Newport Folk festivals to the state. Fall welcomes in all the best things about New England; crisp mornings, leaves changing, and apple and pumpkin picking. The winter is moderated by the ocean but there is amble opportunity for cross country skiing and snow shoeing at the numerous state parks.

Rhode Island is also ideally positioned for wonderful weekend getaways. Boston is 1 hour and New York is 3 hours away. Wonderful hiking is 2.5 hours away, in the Berkshires in Western Massachusetts or the White Mountains of New Hampshire. Vermont offers the best skiing in New England with a 3 hour drive, although some residents have taken advantage of after-work night skiing at Wachusett Mountain.
